Kandivali West sits on Yellow Line 2A of the Mumbai Metro, running from Dahisar East to D.N. Nagar, with the elevated Kandivali West and Dahanukarwadi stations linked by walkway to the Western Railway suburban line at Kandivali station for direct travel to Churchgate and Virar.

S.V. Road and Link Road run through as the main north-south roads, and the Western Express Highway gives quick access to Goregaon, Andheri and Bandra.

BEST buses connect the area to Borivali, Malad and Goregaon.

Families in Kandivali West gravitate toward established schools such as Thakur International School and St. Lawrence High School, and rely on hospitals like Namaha Hospital and United Multispeciality Hospital for healthcare close to home.

Kamala Vihar Garden gives children a green space to play within the neighbourhood. The locality also carries a cluster of junior and degree colleges built up over decades by local education trusts, giving students options without long commutes to central Mumbai.

Charkop Industrial Estate, on the western side of Kandivali, is a long-established cluster of small and medium manufacturing and processing units developed off Old Link Road.

Kandivali West is also close to the Mindspace IT Park, and its road network gives residents direct access to the larger office and industrial corridors of Malad, Goregaon and Andheri to the south, making the locality a base for both local industry and commuters working in those business districts.

Raghuleela Mega Mall on S.V. Road, behind Poinsur bus depot, is the locality's main entertainment hub.

Kandivali West falls under the BMC's R-South ward, which also covers Kandivali East, Charkop, Poisar and Mahavir Nagar. The Poisar river runs through the ward on its route from Sanjay Gandhi National Park to Marve Creek, and it has a history of overflowing its banks and carrying pollution from years of waste dumping along its course.

Civic cleanup drives have targeted the trash and encroachments that have narrowed stretches of the riverbed over time.
