New Chandigarh sits on GMADA's Airport Road/Kurali-Chandigarh Road axis: about 15 km from Chandigarh's Sector 17 CBD, roughly 6 km from PGIMER, and 28 km from Chandigarh International Airport via Kharar.

A six-lane road links it to Mohali, and a Chandigarh-Mohali metro rail project approved by the Punjab government is proposed to extend transit here.

GMADA has earmarked a 1,700-acre 'Education City' within New Chandigarh for school, college and university campuses. ITFT College already operates in Sector 11.

Reputed schools serving the area include Guru Arjan Dev Public School, Air Force School Mullanpur and Strawberry International, and it sits close to Chandigarh's Panjab University and PGIMER for higher education and medical training.

New Chandigarh's master plan sets aside a proposed industrial zone within Mullanpur alongside its residential sectors. Residents also have relatively close access - about 15 km via Vigyan Path - to Chandigarh's established Rajiv Gandhi IT Park and Chandigarh Industrial Area.

The nearby Medicity project, anchored by Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, is also emerging as a healthcare-sector employment hub.

The Shivalik-foothill Siswan forest beside New Chandigarh has been developed into an eco-tourism hub, with a leopard safari, nature treks and a 6.5 km trail between Siswan dam and Mirzapur forest rest house. Nearby Palanpur village hosts the 5-star Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa.

Chandigarh's landmark Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake lie within the wider tricity area.

New Chandigarh's own retail and entertainment infrastructure is still developing under its planned Central Business District, modelled on Chandigarh's Sector 17.

Meanwhile residents rely on nearby Chandigarh for multiplexes and malls - PVR at Elante Mall, Cinepolis at Sector 17's TDI Mall - alongside the international cricket stadium in Mullanpur itself, which draws large crowds for IPL and international matches.

GMADA is developing New Chandigarh as Punjab's first planned 'eco-town' on a grid-iron layout, with roughly a third of the area kept as parks and open space, plus a proposed Sukhna-style artificial lake.

Civic works are still catching up with growth: a residential project was found to obstruct the Siswan rivulet's natural flow, drawing National Green Tribunal scrutiny, and heavy monsoon rain has repeatedly flooded low-lying stretches near the cricket stadium.
