Science City runs along SG Highway (NH-147) and is linked to the rest of Ahmedabad via the Sardar Patel (SP) Ring Road and the Science City Road arterial.

Science City is not an industrial or manufacturing belt - Ahmedabad's traditional GIDC industrial estates lie in the eastern part of the city - but Science City Road has developed into a commercial office corridor, with corporate parks offering space to IT, consultancy and back-office businesses alongside the area's mainly residential character.

The locality takes its name from and is centred on Gujarat Science City, a 107-hectare state-government science-education and entertainment complex with an IMAX 3D theatre, India's largest public aquarium (Aquatic Gallery), a planetarium/Hall of Space, a Robotics Gallery and a Nature Park - a major tourist and family-recreation draw.

Besides Science City's own musical fountain, thrill ride and 1,200-seat amphitheatre, residents have the PVR Acropolis multiplex and Chandlodia market close by, with Rajhans Cinemas also accessible, giving the area a reasonable mix of shopping and recreation options.
