Shela sits on SH-17 (Sanand-Sarkhej Road), about 5 km from Sardar Patel Ring Road, linking it to SG Highway, Satellite, Prahlad Nagar and the Sanand industrial belt. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is roughly 22-24 km away, and Ahmedabad Junction railway station about 15 km.

No metro line currently reaches Shela; residents rely on AMTS/BRTS buses via the Ghuma terminal and road transport.

Shela has a growing cluster of K-12 schools within 2-5 km, including Shanti Juniors Pre School, The New Tulip International School, Cosmos Castle International School, Eklavya School, Delhi Public School and DAV International School.

LJ University is nearby on SG Road.

Shela borders the SH-17 Sanand corridor; Sanand town (about 11 km away) hosts Gujarat's GIDC Sanand Industrial Estate, a large automobile and engineering hub with plants including Tata Motors. Sanand also gained a new Rs 3,300-crore Kaynes Semicon chip-assembly plant, inaugurated in March 2026.

Local office parks such as Parshwanath Business Park and Gallops Industrial Park sit within a few km.

Shela itself is a residential suburb with no major tourist sites of its own. The closest heritage landmark is Sarkhej Roza, a 15th-century Sufi mosque-tomb-palace complex, in neighbouring Makarba.

Central Ahmedabad's attractions require a longer drive: Law Garden, Sabarmati Riverfront, Siddi Saiyyed Mosque and Science City.

Shela has a fast-growing dining and retail scene, with restaurants and cafes such as Hocco Eatery, Pinu's Kitchen, Cube Lounge and Olive Eatery. SOBO Centre mall is about 2 km away, with Amrapali Shopping Mall and Iscon Mega Mall also nearby.

Multiplexes including Mukta A2 Cinemas and PVR 4DX serve the area, alongside numerous public parks.

Shela, Bopal and Ghuma were shifted from AUDA to full Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) jurisdiction in 2021 after long-standing resident complaints about solid-waste management, sewage and thin civic staffing; AMC has since also taken over local water supply.
