Patia sits on Bhubaneswar's northern edge along Nandankanan Road, with Patharagadia Road and the Technology Corridor as other key arteries. The local Patia (PTAB) halt lies on the Howrah-Chennai main line, and Bhubaneswar New Railway Station serves the city's north side.

NH-16 (about 7 km away) links to Cuttack, Jankia and Brahmapur, while Biju Patnaik International Airport is about 13 km away via Nandankanan Road. Local bus stands (KIIT, Sikharchandi, Damana Square) connect Patia across the city, though peak-hour congestion is common.

Patia is anchored by KIIT, a major deemed university, and KISS, the world's largest fully residential school for tribal children, both based on KIIT Road in Patia. Reputed schools such as KIIT International School and Sai International School lie a few kilometres away.

IIT Bhubaneswar and NISER are sometimes linked with the area but are actually located about 20-25 km away at their Jatni campuses, not within Patia itself.

Nandankanan Zoological Park, Odisha's best-known zoo and botanical garden, is about 6 km from Patia via Nandankanan Road. The Dhauli Shanti Stupa, a Buddhist peace pagoda built in 1972 marking the Kalinga War site, lies across the city, about 8 km south of central Bhubaneswar per Odisha Tourism.

The Ananta Vasudeva Temple and Pathani Samanta Planetarium are also cited by residents as nearby places of interest.

Within Patia, KIIT Square on Nandankanan Road and Maruti Mall (0.9 km away) anchor local shopping and dining, alongside restaurants such as Zingiber, Malva and Patiala House. DLF Cyber City adds food-court and business-centre space.

It is a stated priority under the Bhubaneswar Smart City Mission, and BDA has floated a Rs 77-crore tender for a new Gadakana-Patia road link (about 3 km, 18-month timeline) to ease chronic congestion and improve access to Patia's IT and institutional hubs.
